Publications - Land and People 2, 2016
In 2014, Clarecastle/Ballyea Heritage & Wildlife Group published a very well received volume entitled Land & People. The collaboration of Clarecastle and Ballyea in the cause of preserving local heritage gifted the parish and the “global parish community” a rich treasure in the form of this book.
The success of the book and further researches by the Group has resulted in the compiling of Land & People 2, a large-format, 200 page-book which will be launched in late November. There are eighteen chapters in the new book, with a diverse range of topics and there are a large number of rare photographs and images not previously published.
All of this was made possible by the generosity of so many parishioners who gave their time and shared personal correspondence, pictures, stories and anecdotes to make this such a compelling read.
All parishioners, whether local or away from home, will feel the emotional connection with place in every page they read and picture or image they browse. The very best of memories will come flooding back as people and places, in many cases long forgotten, are so vividly brought back to life.
The book is the product of over two years work by the Clarecastle & Ballyea Heritage & Wildlife Team, a sub-committee of the Clarecastle Community Development Company. This has been a huge not-for-profit undertaking carried out by a dedicated group of volunteers who share a passion for preserving our local heritage.
