In the 1950s, M.J. Tuohy, formerly of Low Island in the Fergus, wrote a series of articles in the Clare Champion. These cover aspects of island life as well as life on the river Fergus and Estuary. Tales of fishing, boating, shooting and a host of other related topics are featured and capture the spirit of the river in a wonderful way.

Have you seen a book, The Islands of the Fergus Estuary by Dolores Meaney & Jackie Elger, published in 2013? Wonderful with many great photos etc. May be out of print.
Hi Thanks for posting this. My family has a cottage on Low Island that I’m doing up at the moment. I was wondering do you have any more documents/information relating to Low Island and/or island life in general?
