Illustrated Parish Milestones - Clarecastle and Ballyea
In 2014, Clarecastle Heritage & Wildlife Group published a 200-page journal entitled Land & People. One of the chapters in the book was a detailed chart of the Parish Timeline from 10,000 BC to the present day at the time.
Since 2014, the Group has acquired a large archive of images, photographs, film etc. and it was felt that a suitably presented illustrated timeline would be a wonderful educational resource for the local community and schools as well as an enhanced archival item.
The resulting Milestone Project will act as an Index to the many postings on this website directing the viewer to postings such as: – Genealogical records including church baptism & marriage records from 1834 to 1900 – Gravestone inscriptions, 2,000 in total, for the seven parish graveyards. – Many of the references in the Milestones Timeline will concur with individual posts on the website, e.g historical buildings, residences etc. – References in the Milestones Project will also be linked to a physical Heritage Trail for Clarecastle and its environs, an exciting project which is presently under construction.
iCan supports heritage and community groups in Clare, Galway, Mayo and Wicklow and hosts a wonderful network, invaluable for communication and promotion purposes. Clarecastle & Ballyea Heritage is also a member of the Community Archives & Heritage Group which has members all over the UK and Ireland.
